Do I need experience?
No. Commit to the meetings and trust the trainers.
What is the hourly rate?
Umpires are paid per game. 2026 rates are $73.75 for JV games and $92.25 for Varsity games. Please contact us for more details.
When are game times?
Monday-Thursday:
4:30 or 5:00.Friday doubleheaders:
2:00 or 3:00.
Friday single games:
4:30 or 5:00.Saturday doubleheaders:
12:00 or 1:00.
How will I receive game assignments?
Online. After registering with OSAA, you will receive an account with our assigning app.
Tailor availability around your schedule.
How many games could I work?
High schools play every day but Sunday. With doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, you could work as many as eight games per week.
Will I work the plate or the bases?
Umpires work an equal amount of both positions and always switch positions for the second game of a doubleheader.
Will I have the same partner?
No. You will work with a variety of partners and will begin with experienced umpires.

What about start-up costs?
Umpires must register annually with OSAA. Affordable gear kits are available. Start-up costs are easily recouped. Contact us for more information.
How far should I expect to travel?
The majority of games are in Eugene-Springfield or within 10-25 miles. A vehicle is necessary. Carpooling is an option.
How long is the season?
The high school season is March 16 to June 6.
Will I be eligible to work summer ball?
Yes! Summer ball is a great way to develop your skills. The summer season is June 8 to October.
Two-man system?
This term is umpire lingo and is not a gender barrier. LCUA does not discriminate.
Is there an age requirement?
18. LCUA can petition OSAA on your behalf if you are under 18. OSAA supports youth.
